Filing Period for EEO-1, VETS-100 and VETS-100A Now Open

by Sally Weldin, Sr. Human Resource Specialist

Published Aug 30, 2010

As the summer winds down and the fall season begins, two government-mandated reports are required to be filed by certain employers.  Private sector employers with 100 or more employees and/or government contractors or subcontractors with federal government contracts of $50,000 or more and 50 or more employees must file the Employer Information Report EEO-1 (otherwise known as the EEO-1 Report).  The EEO-1 Report requires data from company locations documenting race and gender of employees by EEO-1 categories.  The filing deadline is September 30, 2010.  The 2010 EEO-1 Survey is required to be filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's EEO-1 Joint Reporting Committee. The preferred method for completing this report is a web-based filing system. Online filing requires a company to log into its pre-established company's database with a login ID and password.  If you cannot locate your login ID and/or password, contact the EEO-1 Joint Reporting Committee.

Using the online system is convenient for employers because:

  • No Installation: The online form is totally web-based. There is no software to download or install.
  • Data Reuse: As much as possible, information is pre-filled from the previous year to speed up data entry.
  • Secure: Data is transferred over the Internet using encryption, assuring privacy.
  • Historical Access: Access up to 10 years worth of EEO-1 data for establishments.

The VETS-100 and VETS-100A reports must also be filed at this time of year.  The VETS-100 report applies to contractors who are still working on a contract worth $25,000 or more, entered into prior to December 1, 2003 and which has not been modified since that date. The VETS-100A, the newer report, applies to contractors with a contract in an amount of $100,000 or more, entered into after December 1, 2003. If a contractor has multiple contracts that fall into both categories mentioned above, both a VETS-100 and a VETS-100A may need to be filed.

All reports must be filed by September 30, 2010. If your organization cannot meet that deadline, you may request an extension between August 1, 2010, and September 30, 2010, by contacting the VETS-100 Help Desk at (301) 586-1580 or via e-mail.
