Question: What do I do about COBRA for employees whose employment is terminating this month (after the COBRA subsidy expired on February 28th)?
Answer: Late on Tuesday of this week (March 2, 2010) the Senate voted to extend the COBRA subsidy until the end of March. Previously, the subsidy was to affect only those individuals whose employment was terminated through February 28, 2010. Under the stop-gap bill, which the President signed late Tuesday night, the 65% subsidy for laid-off workers was extended to include those individuals whose employment is involuntarily terminated from March 1 through March 31, 2010. We assume that all of the eligibility and notification requirements are remaining the same as for those affected by the previous extension.
