COBRA Briefing: New Extension of ARRA Benefits

As part of the Fiscal Year 2010 Defense Appropriations Act (DAA), President Obama approved extensions to the COBRA benefits given to employees under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), where those who were involuntarily terminated were given subsidized COBRA coverage.  There are two changes to the subsidy benefits under the DAA:  those eligible for the premium subsidy will now receive it for a total of 15 months and those who lose their jobs involuntarily through February 28, 2010, will now be eligible for the subsidy.

This briefing presumes that participants have basic COBRA knowledge and focuses on the changes to the subsidy benefits under the DAA.  It is not an overview of general COBRA provisions.
