Angela Adams, has been with HR Source since 2000. Angela has expertise affirmative action programs and general HR services. She also provides assistance in training for member organizations.
Angela has worked in human resources 20 years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Science in Human Resources Management from Boston University. She is a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) as designated through the Human Resource Certification Institute and a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) through the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, as well as a Senior Certified Professional (SCP) through the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM).

With two decades Fortune 100 experience, Chris knows her way around people and business. As an early adopter of NLP and machine learning techniques, she pioneered real-time insight to workplace issues. She equips companies and enables employees to do their best work now.
Chris is known for leading highly innovative work in the HR Analytics space. She established IBM’s market leadership in HR practices related to employee engagement and social analytics. She defined, designed and implemented the inaugural employee engagement measurement system for IBM's 400,000-person employee population. Under her leadership, the team further harnessed employee social sentiment to create a real-time predictive employee engagement model.
Outside work, Chris is a loving wife to husband Scott, and doting mom to two teenage boys. She has a passion for vulnerable populations, and advocates for medical, dental and behavioral health for the underserved. She also works to raise awareness around human trafficking.
Mary Lynn Fayoumi, CAE, SPHR, GPHR, SHRM-SCP

Mary Lynn Fayoumi is a highly respected and sought after speaker, trainer and advisor and is an accepted authority on a variety of organizational issues including workplace culture, employment trends, people management and leadership. Countless organizations have benefited from her expertise during her twenty plus years at the association.
Mary Lynn is a prolific writer, quoted and published regularly in a variety of local and national publications. She is a Past Chair of the Board of Directors for both the Association Forum of Chicagoland and the Employer Associations of America. She is also an Advisory Board Member of the Community Memorial Foundation and Family Shelter Service.
Mary Lynn is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Iowa with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Industrial Relations/Human Resources. She also holds an MBA in International Management with Honors from the Thunderbird School of Management.
Candace L. Fisher, SPHR, SHRM-SCP
Certified Coach, Director Organizational Development
Candace Fisher is the Director of Organizational Development at HR Source. In this role, her responsibilities include assisting members with design and implementation of training and development programs for their Human Resource staff, supervisory and non-supervisory employees. In addition, Candace facilitates various training sessions at HR Source, including sessions in Spanish. She advises members and assists with organizational issues such as management coaching, change and performance management. She provides human resource, employee relations and supervisory/management services for member organizations via the HR Hotline.
Prior to working for HR Source, Ms. Fisher was a Human Resource Manager and an HR Generalist for various organizations in the greater Chicagoland area. Her background includes work in training and development, employee relations, labor relations, benefits negotiation and administration, recruiting, workers’ compensation and overall strategic management of the Human Resource function.
Ms. Fisher obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the University of Illinois, Urbana, as well as a master’s in Business Administration from the University of Illinois, Chicago. She is a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) as designated through the Human Resource Certification Institute, a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) as designated through the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and a Certified Coach.
Jim Griffin, JD
Jim Griffin is an employment attorney for HR Source. In his role, Jim works with employers to draft and revise employment policies, handbooks, and severance agreements, and counsels them with regards to complying with relevant employment laws. Jim also represents employers before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Illinois Human Rights Commission, the Illinois Department of Labor, and other state and federal agencies. In addition, he provides employment law compliance training for managers, supervisors, and HR professionals, and contributes to the Association’s website. Prior to joining HR Source, Jim worked at a plaintiffs' employment law firm, where he handled federal and state class action, multi-plaintiff, and individual cases related to employment discrimination, wage and hour issues, and other employment-related claims. Jim graduated cum laude with a J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law. Jim has a B.S. in psychology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
Kelly Hayden, JD
Chief Legal Counsel
Kelly Hayden is Chief Legal Counsel for HR Source, a professional organization providing human resource solutions for member organizations for over 100 years. In her role, Kelly provides representation to employers before the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Illinois Human Rights Commission, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Illinois Department of Labor, the US Department of Labor and other state and federal agencies. She also assists employers with hiring, discipline, and termination procedures; preparation of employment agreements; and the drafting and reviewing of employment policies and handbooks. She provides employment law compliance training for managers, supervisors, and HR professionals covering many topics including harassment, discipline and discharge, the FMLA, ADA, social media, employee handbooks, interviewing and hiring and drug and alcohol testing. As a representative of HR Source, Kelly frequently lectures to professional organizations on numerous employment law topics and contributes to the association’s website and has authored articles in numerous trade journals.
Kelly has a J.D. from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law and a B.A. in English and psychology, also from Indiana University. Kelly is admitted to practice law in the State of Illinois and before the Northern District of Illinois, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. Kelly came to the Association from a large Chicago law firm where she practiced for nine years defending employers in employment discrimination trials. Kelly is a member of the American Bar Association and its Section on Labor and Employment Law. Kelly has also served as a fire commissioner for the Village of Frankfort Fire Protection District for more than 10 years.
Joy Lynn Hyer, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, CCP
Joy Lynn Hyer, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, CCP is HR Source’s Compensation/Survey Analyst. Joy Lynn manages employee engagement survey services along with a national database of employee engagement statistics. She also consults with employers on job evaluation systems, compensation system design, on using survey data to benchmark compensation practices, and on the association’s HR Hotline. Joy Lynn holds a Bachelor of Arts from California State University, Long Beach.

Heidi Kaplan is Director of Client Services at OneDigital, a national team of experienced employee benefits advisors who create greater value for employers and inspire individuals to become more engaged health care consumers.
Heidi has three decades of experience in the employee benefits industry. Her expertise in servicing clients has developed strong business relationships over the years.
Heidi received her bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She’s licensed to sell life, accident and health insurance products.

As Vice President of Human Resources, Suzanne is responsible for all Marmon Foodservice Technologies companies. Suzanne joined the company in 2015 focusing on talent management, compensation, benefits, organizational development, employee and labor relations, and safety; while adhering to 80/20 principles. A leader with over 15 years of international manufacturing business experience; Suzanne is a key influencer, responsible for driving developmental strategy and employee engagement within Marmon Foodservice Technologies.
Suzanne is a graduate of St. Norbert College in De Pere, WI where she received a Bachelor's Degree in International Studies and Spanish. During her time in college, she spent a semester studying abroad in Toledo, Spain. Suzanne is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and also holds her Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification through the Society for Human Resource Management.
Corporate Poet & Cutter of Crap
Beth Nyland is the Corporate Poet & Cutter of Crap. She refuses bland and boring. In this workshop, she’ll do what she does every day: guide business people to choose words and tell stories that motivate others to think, believe, and take action. Because that’s how business gets done.
Beth has been a corporate communicator for more than 25 years. She’s spent half her career inside large corporations like Accenture and Unilever, and the other half supporting leaders and teams through her creative agency, Spencer Grace. Last year she co-founded Story Mode, a joint venture between Spencer Grace and StoryStudio Chicago—a creative writing school. Story Mode brings storytelling and creative strategies into the workplace through workshops, coaching, and collaborative consulting.
Beth is a creator, a performer, an experimenter, a listener, a coach ... oh, and a mom of six. She’s also a daily practice junkie who takes on insane creative challenges, like writing a poem or drawing a picture every day for a year.
Julius E. Rhodes, SPHR

He is the author of BRAND: YOU Personal Branding for Success in Life and Business and BRAND: YOU The Workbook. A graduate of Mt. Carmel High School he has a Bachelors of Science degree in Human Resources from Roosevelt University and a Masters of Science degree from Loyola University's Institute of Human Resource and Industrial Relations.
In 1992 Mr. Rhodes completed a certified arbitrator development program through Cornell University and the New York State Employment Relations Board. In 1997 he received a lifetime designation as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), the highest level of professional accomplishment in human resources.
In March of 2000 he was awarded an Illinois Consortium for Educational Opportunities Program Fellowship for Ph. D. studies in Business Ethics and he has completed his coursework in this area.
Mr. Rhodes has had significant corporate exposure with several leading edge firms such as Exxon/Mobil , General Electric, Baxter Healthcare and Sara Lee Bakery, as well as, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
In 1994 he began the mpr group, a broad based human resources consulting firm providing customized training, consulting and project management services.
Mr. Rhodes has facilitated numerous human resources related activities in manufacturing, health care, consumer products and electronics, information technology, educational and the cultural arts for public and private firms in the profit and not-for-profit sectors.
He has been recognized by the Minority Business Report as their Minority Business Enterprise Entrepreneur of the Week and he has been featured in Black Enterprise magazine in their "Ask An Expert" section.
Sonal Shah, JD
Senior Employment Counsel
Sonal is Senior Employment Counsel for HR Source, a professional organization providing human resource solutions for member organizations for over 100 years. As part of her practice, Sonal has represented employers against wrongful discharge and discrimination claims in front of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, and the Illinois Human Rights Commission. Sonal also has significant experience counseling employers on properly complying with the law and managing their workforce; preparing employment and severance agreements; drafting/revising disciplinary and termination notices; and crafting employment policies and handbooks. In addition, she provides employment law compliance training for managers, supervisors and HR professionals. Sonal also contributes to the Association’s monthly newsletter and website.
Sonal came to the HR Source from a large Chicago law firm where she represented public and private employers, from the smallest private companies to corporations exceeding 10,000 employees, on a broad range of labor and employment law matters arising under federal and state law.
Sonal has a B.S. in Business Administration from The Ohio State University and a J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis.
Master Sommelier, TV Personality, Entrepreneur & Restaurateur
Born and raised in Monterey, California, Alpana Singh’s strong work ethic and ease with people of all ages stemmed from a youth spent working in her family’s ethnic grocery store. Later, while waiting tables in college, Singh fell in love with wine and discovered that it united her varied interests in traveling, history and food.
At 19, she pursued a path in the business with a job as a wine sales clerk at Nielsen Bros. Market in Carmel, California. By 23, she had landed the sommelier position at the world-renowned Everest Restaurant in Chicago. Just three years later at the age of 26, Singh went on to become the youngest woman ever to pass the final level of the Master Sommelier exam which has a pass rate of 3%. There are 149 professionals who have earned the title of Master Sommelier as part of the Americas chapter since the organization’s inception. Of those, 125 are men and 24 are women.
This distinguished accomplishment, along with her effervescence, experience and energy, was magnetic, and it wasn’t long before Singh found herself in the local spotlight. For ten seasons, she served as the host of the Emmy Award-winning restaurant review television show, Check, Please!, on Chicago’s PBS station, and returned in 2018 after a five-year absence. In addition, in 2014 she appeared as a featured judge on Food Network's Food Truck Face Off.
In December 2012, Singh opened The Boarding House, a wine-driven concept in the River North neighborhood. In February of 2015, Singh opened her second restaurant, Seven Lions, on Chicago’s iconic Michigan Avenue. In 2016, Alpana announced her third restaurant venture, Terra & Vine, in Evanston, Illinois.
Singh was proud to be included as a Crain’s 40 Under 40 honoree in Chicago in 2001 at the age of 24 and has since been a prominent member of the community. Singh is a member of the Choose Chicago Board of Directors and on the Advisory Council for the Illinois Restaurant Association. She played a significant role in bringing the James Beard Foundation Awards to the city of Chicago in 2015 and is an avid supporter of Deborah’s Place, an organization that assists and empowers women facing homelessness.
Lauren Soderstrom, PHR
Senior Organizational Development Partner
Lauren Soderstrom, Senior Organizational Development Partner, provides training services on a variety of Human Resource and Leadership topics for HR Source and for member organizations. She also consults with members on employee relations issues. She brings over 10 years of Human Resource, Training and Organizational Development experience in the real estate and legal industries to the Association. Lauren is a Certified Coach who works with groups and individual members to improve the contributions of talent within organizations.
Lauren holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and is PHR certified through the Human Resource Certification Institute.
Sue Winkler, SPHR
Sue brings over 30 years of experience in Human Resources and Safety to HR Source. In her current role, Sue is the Director of EngageHR and leads the team of HR professionals providing on-site HR support, partnering on special projects and providing recruiting assistance. She was responsible to rebrand and market this service for HR Source in addition to building the team to support member needs. Sue also directly supports members through working on EngageHR and consulting projects, organizing safety initiatives, supporting membership development, investigating strategic partnerships, and coordinating briefing meetings. In addition, she provides services to members via the Hotline assisting in all areas including compliance, employee relations, investigations, safety, recruiting, policy interpretation, and benefits.
As a previous business owner and executive of a manufacturing company, Sue brings a unique perspective to human resources. Leading and working as part of a family owned manufacturing company has given her insight and experience in all aspects of the business including strategic planning, profitability, corporate structure, mentoring and coaching, long range planning, benefit administration, policy development and implementation, workers’ compensation/safety program administration and development, employee communication and training, and recruiting. Sue is a seasoned manager with extensive hands-on experience who understands the balance between corporate and employee needs.
In addition, Sue spent 15 years on the Board of Trustees for the Worker’s Compensation Trust of Illinois, a self-funded pooled risk program. Sue served as Chairman of the Board for several years, and was closely involved in claims management and loss control for the approximately 100 members of the Trust.
Sue earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Bradley University with a Business minor.
