Performance Discussions: Conducting Critical Conversations

Performance Discussions: Conducting Critical Conversations

Managers and supervisors are busy.  So when employees are doing their job, it’s easy to forget to take the time to let them know that they’ve done a good job.  On the other hand, nobody likes to have those “difficult” conversations with employees to let them know that they’re not quite cutting it!

In this session, we’ll go through the steps of conducting a performance feedback discussion and address the supervisor’s responsibilities to:

• Own the message
• Have concrete examples
• Give balanced feedback
• Gain the employee’s buy-in
• Mandate compliance (if necessary)
• Discuss the solution
• Summarize, document and follow up
