Legal Services FAQs
What legal services does HR Source offer?
In addition to counseling members through our HR Hotline, we provide a wide range of legal and HR support services for HR Source members, including:
Employment‑related documents. Our attorneys can review or draft policies, employee handbooks, executive employment agreements, independent contractor agreements, confidentiality and non‑compete agreements, severance packages, vendor agreements, and more.
Workplace investigations. Let us conduct neutral investigations into allegations of harassment, discrimination, bullying, and other workplace concerns. We can also provide advice and counsel on how to handle these issues once an investigation concludes.
Legal and compliance training. HR Source attorneys frequently provide training for managers and leadership teams on topics such as harassment and discrimination prevention, ADA/FMLA/Workers’ Compensation, drug and alcohol policies, documentation practices, wage and hour compliance, ethics, and legal best practices.
Representation and agency response. Our attorneys assist members with responses to complaints or inquiries from administrative agencies including the EEOC, IDHR, IDES, and the Department of Labor, as well as responding to attorney demand letters.
How much do you charge? Are these services included in my membership?
HR Hotline services are included in your HR Source membership. HR Source members can ask to speak directly to an attorney while on the Hotline at no charge.
Additional services, such as document review or document drafting, are either billed at an hourly rate or available on a flat-fee basis for greater cost predictability. Either way, you’ll get fantastic member pricing!
Can I use your legal services even if I’m not a member of HR Source?
Sorry, but legal services through HR Source’s in-house attorneys are only available to members of HR Source. That said, our members often report that the value of membership plus our discounted member legal rates are a screamin’ deal! (Not a member? Join us!)
Why should we use HR Source attorneys instead of our general counsel?
When you’re dealing with human resource issues, you deserve guidance from professionals who focus exclusively on employment law. Our association attorneys are licensed in Illinois and bring experience from mid to large‑sized law firms, government agencies, and roles defending employers in both jury and bench trials. They have extensive experience advising employers on employment law and HR matters. Our approach focuses on proactive, preventive, and practical guidance – helping you avoid litigation and address issues early, rather than relying solely on adversarial legal strategies.
Can I choose who to work with?
Sure! We have four attorneys on staff, and you will generally be connected with the one available to assist you most promptly. But, while each of our attorneys is a delight in their own way, if you prefer to work with someone specific, you’re welcome to request that person or contact them directly.
Can HR Source provide legal services outside Illinois?
Our attorneys are licensed in Illinois. While we cannot provide legal representation outside the state, we may still be able to offer some guidance or support depending on your specific needs.
Can your attorneys provide sample documents for me to edit?
For sure! Your HR Source membership includes access to our Forms & Sample Documents library, which contains a wide range of sample policies and other helpful resources. However, certain documents - such as agreements, contracts, and other legally binding materials - are not included, as they should be drafted or reviewed by qualified legal counsel. If you need assistance with these types of documents, please contact us directly at 800-448-4584 or [email protected].
